Leeds Festival Chorus Summer Concert
7th July 2007

The popular Leeds Festival Chorus will return to Ripon Cathedral on Saturday 7 July at 7.30 pm for a Summer Concert which will include the première of a new piece ‘The Bells of London Town’ specially written for Simon Wright and the 170 strong chorus by composer Geoffrey Kinder, one of its tenors. It includes the full version of the famous Oranges and Lemons in which the chorus will be accompanied by tubular bells.

The concert gets off to a sunny start with Dvorak’s Wind Serenade performed by members of the York Guildhall Orchestra; a perfect piece for a summer’s evening.

The main work of the evening is Bruckner’s first recognised masterpiece, his Mass in E minor, which will be sung by the Leeds Festival Chorus accompanied by the York Guildhall Wind Ensemble conducted by Simon Wright.

“Performing new music has been an important part of the Leeds Festival Chorus tradition since it was founded in 1858, “ said Simon. “We are proud and privileged to continue this tradition in Ripon’s wonderful Cathedral.”

The concert is in aid of Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign (Music Foundation).

Tickets (£12, £15 & £18) are available from any Leeds Festival Chorus member or the Ripon Box Office: tel 01765 603583.
