The vergers play an important role in the running of the Cathedral. As well as assisting the clergy in the conduct of public worship, the vergers are often the first point of contact for anybody with business to transact with the Cathedral.
The vergers also look after the day-to-day affairs of the Cathedral and help ensure everything runs smoothly.
