There was much to celebrate this weekend as we observed the Feast of St Wilfrid and later in the day gave thanks for our Founders and Benefactors.
Sunday afternoon’s service was attended by the Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Mr Richard Compton – representing Her Majesty the Queen, with Her Imperial Highness the Archduchess of Austria (pictured right.)
Our preacher (centre) was the Rev Canon Dr Flora Winfield DL, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Special Representative to the Commonwealth.
Within the act of worship we gave thanks for the contribution of each generation to the life and mission of the Church in Ripon – going back even beyond Wilfrid to the first community of Celtic monks who settled here in the mid 7th century.
We also gave thanks for the gift of £6,000 from the Friends of Cathedral Music for new robes for our renowned choir. The charity exists to safeguard our priceless heritage of cathedral music and support a living tradition.
