News from our Music Department…
In these strange and challenging times, we have been creating new ways to bring together our cathedral choristers. Since Monday 30th March we have held ‘virtual toast & fruit’ sessions via Zoom, at 4pm Monday-Friday. This is the time when the choristers would usually be gathering in the cathedral for their actual toast & fruit before they have rehearsals or prepare for evensong.
The Zoom sessions allow the choristers to chat with each other and take part in activities: quizzes, name that tune, rehearsals, scavenger hunts… We are starting Saturday sessions from next week which will include more singing, theory and activities, as well as a training session for our new probationers who were due to start in the choir this week.
We have also created our own website www.choristersclub.com – which contains links to a range of activities, a library with a selection of material for information and use during virtual rehearsals.
We need your help!
Another project we have started planning is a community celebration for when Social Lockdown is lifted. We thought it would be a great opportunity to host a ‘Singsational’ sing-along for the whole community.
Below is a link to a questionnaire for everyone to tell us their favourite hymn, piece of music you would like to sing, or listen to, once we are together. This questionnaire will be shared within the cathedral parish and the wider community. The Cathedral Choir will lead the singing and perform a few pieces. Depending upon the pieces selected there may be an opportunity to form a scratch choir forthe day, the link includes an option for you to register your interest.
Please submit your choices and do share the link with friends and family. Although we can’t guarantee to sing ALL the music chosen, we will definitely use the most popular selections of hymns and music.
