A powerful one-act play about dementia called ‘The Last Memory’ is taking place in the cathedral with the aim of raising awareness of the illness and funds for our partner charity – Ripon based Dementia Forward.
Talking Stock productions has been invited to perform the piece by the Friends of Ripon Cathedral, by kind permission of the Dean and Chapter. The play highlights the dementia related challenges faced by a growing number of families within our society.
In it Ernest asks his daughter… “How can I go to heaven if I don’t know who I am ?” His plan is that his daughter Lynne should be the keeper of his memory and the guardian of their past.
The poignant drama was inspired by the true story of actress Catherine Pasek’s late father Edwin Harrison whose battle with Alzheimer’s Disease lasted 17 years. Catherine lost both parents to the disease in 2016.
It is written by Alan Stockdill and will be followed by a Q&A session with the writer/director and actors.
The play takes place on Tuesday October 1st at 7.30pm. It’s free with donations for Dementia Forward welcome.
