This Yorkshire Choirs’ Festival saw our boy choristers and lay clerks in concert at Bradford Cathedral with the choirs of Bradford and Wakefield Cathedrals. Our Director of Music Andrew Bryden is pictured conducting Ripon (Photo by Helen Tabor).
The concert, on Saturday October 5, included Ripon singing works by Lennox Berkeley, James MacMillan and Australian composer Bruce Stewart; evensong celebrated Kenneth Leighton’s 90th anniversary with his Magdalen Service and Bairstow’s Blessed city, heavenly Salem.
Each cathedral choir swapped round for evensong on Sunday October 6: our girl choristers and lay clerks went to Bradford with works by David Cooper and Anton Bruckner, while Wakefield visited Ripon to sing Herbert Howells’ Collegium Regale and Philip Wilby’s If ye love me.
Dean John says: “We are delighted that this is one of the very pleasing ways in which the three cathedrals are working together in the Diocese of Leeds and helping to raise the profile of choral music for the diocese as a whole.”
