Due to concerns over the rise in the number of COVID cases, the decision has been reluctantly taken to cancel the Yorkshire Cathedrals Festival on Saturday.
Ripon Cathedral was to have hosted the choirs of Bradford Cathedral and Wakefield Cathedral – its sister cathedrals in the Diocese of Leeds, for the beautiful service of evensong on Saturday.
This is the second year that the festival has fallen victim to the pandemic.
Ripon’s Interim Director of Music Peter Wright said: “The decision didn’t come easily as we were torn between the tremendous excitement of the three cathedrals meeting once more and singing together and being cautious in the current circumstances. As always, we continue to put the welfare of our choristers at the top of our priorities and bringing 50 or more children into close proximity seemed unwise.”
