Music is one of the crowning glories of Ripon Cathedral. The uplifting sound of the cathedral’s outstanding choirs, as well as the dramatic notes of the historic organ, can be experienced at weekly services such as Choral Evensong.
Choirs & Music
Music has been an integral part to the liturgy and central to the life of the Cathedral since St Wilfrid introduced cantors from Canterbury Cathedral in the 7th century.
Today, Ripon Cathedral Choir consists of the Cathedral Boys’ Choir, the Girls’ Choir, the Choral Scholars and the Lay Clerks – professional voices who sing the lower parts. In addition to the daily round of choral services, the Choir takes part in concerts, tours, broadcasts and recordings and is regarded as one of the finest in the country.
