Worship and Music

With a history spanning 14 centuries, worship is at the heart of the cathedral and we rejoice in our vibrant choral tradition. Music and choirs enrich the services here and remain at the centre of many acts of worship.

Every day of the year there are at least three services – morning prayer, a Eucharist and evening prayer. On the majority of days there are also sung services. Throughout the Christian calendar there are a host of services which celebrate and support the life of the city, diocese and region.

Experience

Evensong

Choral evensong is a truly beautiful service, held at the start of most evenings. It is the perfect time for contemplation after a busy day. With minimal active participation, evensong allows worshippers to enjoy a reflective, quiet atmosphere with world-class music in the stunning setting of the quire.

a place of

Music

Music plays an integral role in the life and worship of the cathedral. Just imagine a silent cathedral – without a choir – all services spoken. Today we are fortunate to have a wonderful choir, made up of boy and girl choristers, choral scholars and lay clerks. The choir sings five days a week during term time.

cherish

Life Events

The times when you may wish to call on God’s grace are christenings, confirmations, weddings, anniversaries and funeral or memorial services. We are here to support you and to share these moments with you.

a place FOR

Children

The cathedral hosts two wonderful and welcoming groups for younger members of the congregation during the 10.30am Eucharist on Sundays. Explore the Christian faith through stories, songs, crafts, and play.

Little Children’s Church is for six and under and Children’s Church for over six years of age.

Messy

Cathedral

Families come together in the cathedral to explore the Christian faith through stories, songs, games and craft activities. At the end we all share a lovely sandwich tea together. The session is free and open to regular worshippers or those new to the church, and for all ages, but most suited to those under 11 years of age. Messy Cathedral is on a Sunday at 4.30pm twice a term.

growing your

Faith

At Ripon Cathedral we have many opportunities to help you discover more about the Christian faith, and to seek to develop and flourish in it, if you wish.

On the following page we have shared some of our thoughts faith, spirituality and being at home in the Church.
